How do I apply to the program?
There is no formal application process. You may enroll in classes as you would any other community education
class at Lane Community College.
Do I have to start fall term?
Lane’s Massage Therapy Program is an open entry program. While it is beneficial to take some courses before
others, you can start in any term.
How long does it take to complete the program?
While it is possible to complete the program in four terms, it is highly recommended students complete the
program in six terms. Nevertheless, you may take as many or as few classes as meets your personal schedule and
take as long as you need to complete the program.
Do classes I have taken at other community colleges or massage schools transfer to the
program?
The Oregon Board of Massage Therapists makes the determination which courses they will accept toward the
minimum 500 classroom hours when you apply to sit for the exam. However, if you have taken a course at another
community college that you believe fulfills a prerequisite for a course you want to enroll in at Lane, our staff will be
happy to review your transcript with you to make this determination.
I hold a current Oregon license in a health related field, do I have to complete Lane’s 629 hours
program?
No, an applicant who currently holds an Oregon license in a health related field can apply for a license by
indorsement. The requirement for the National Certification Exam is waived, but the applicant must successfully
complete the practical exam. Transcripts showing 300 hours of Massage Theory and Practical Application, Clinical
Practice, Business Development, Communication, Ethics, Sanitation and Hydrotherapy are required. Verification of
current licensure from the licensing agency and a copy of the current license must be submitted with application.
Are there other costs to the program?
Most courses have required textbooks. Student practitioners are required to purchase personal liability insurance.
Information about personal liability insurace is available here at the DTC.
Is financial aid available?
Lane’s Massage Therapy Program is a non-credit program and does not qualify for student federal financial aid.
How can I pay for Lane’s massage therapy program?
Are scholarships available?
The Continuing Education Department has a small scholarship program. Scholarships are awarded in the fall/spring term. The typical scholarship amount awarded is $300. Applications are available at the Downtown Center. Contact the program coordinator for more information.
Information about other organizations that offer scholarships can be obtained from scholarship search sites such as www.fastweb.com.
How does Lane’s program compare with other massage schools in Oregon?
All of these schools meet or exceed the Oregon Board minimum of 500 hours (200 of health sciences and 300 of
massage theory and practical application). Each program takes approximately 12 months to complete and classes
have low teacher to student ratios. According to our students, many of whom transfer from other schools, Lane
offers greater flexibility and high quality at a competitive cost!
I have finished the 629 hour massage therapy program. What is my next step?
Once you have finished the 629 hour massage therapy program:
- Check your unofficial transcript. You can do this by signing into myLane, clicking the myEnrollment tab and choosing Print Unofficial Transcript.
- Contact Kathy Calise for an "I am finished with the massage program!" meeting, calisek@lanecc.edu
- After you have checked to make sure you passed all of the required 629 hours, you will then need to order an official transcript for the Oregon Board of Massage. Be sure and have these transcripts sent to you but do not open the inner sealed envelope. You will find instructions for ordering your official transcript at http://2011sitearchive.lanecc.edu/es/transcripts.html
