LCC President Mary SpildeOnline and on your way to success

—By Mary Spilde, President

Got a minute? Didn’t think so. Here’s a solution—online learning.

Online classes are a flexible alternative to traditional classroom learning.

When classroom seats are full, often you can still get the class you need if you take it online.

At Lane, online enrollment has grown by 43 percent over the past three years. Everybody’s taking online classes—workers keeping up their skills, parents juggling schedules, commuters saving on costs.

Lane offers an outstanding variety of online classes. You’ll find good choices whether you’re seeking transfer classes, career and technical training, or noncredit options.

Online courses are just as challenging as on-site courses. You must log in regularly, participate
in e-discussions, and meet due dates. You need to be self-motivated and self-disciplined.

Nonetheless, students achieve an overall success rate of 83 percent in online classes, similar to traditional classes. That’s important. More than ever, you need a degree or certificate to compete in today’s economy.

Online learning is a strategic direction for Lane this year. It’s cost effective, time effective, and
sustainable for both students and the college.

Online learning is an opportunity for positive transformation. We’re doing our best to expand the online resources available to you at Lane Community College.
