Health and Wellness Center ready for students
—By Mary Spilde, President
This fall, Lane Community College main campus welcomes students with its first new building in 10 years—the Health and Wellness Center.
To think we broke ground just 15 months ago!
Here you will find the community’s finest classrooms and labs for career training in nursing, emergency medical technician, respiratory care, physical therapist assistant, and exercise science. Buildings 4 and 5 next door offer more health careers training such as dental hygiene and physical education.
The center improves our carbon footprint. The
41,700-square-foot building is on track to earn
LEED Gold certification (Leadership in Energy
and Environmental Design). Wait until you
see the rooftop alveolus, or “glass lung,” that
opens at night to bring in fresh new air. There
are many more green features.
There will be fabulous artwork and everyone can enjoy the plaza and landscaping.
We are grateful to the Lane Community College Foundation and the donors and elected leaders whose contributions substantially funded the $15 million center. This is a true gift to our students and the future of our community.
Please join us for the Grand Opening
celebration on Thursday, September 23 at
4 p.m. Until then, check out the live webcam
at 2011sitearchive.lanecc.edu/healthwellness/webcam.html.
