Protecting the
Public’s Resources
-By Mary Spilde, President
Lane Community College is committed to protecting the public’s resources, and the time has come to renew and renovate classrooms, labs and buildings.
Contemporary, well-equipped learning facilities
are essential for students to obtain the
education and training that they need
to achieve their dreams. More than
36,000 students a year depend on
Lane to prepare them for the 21st
century.
Thoughtful renovation would
create more classrooms to serve
more students, especially at peak
demand times. Rooms that would be
reconfigured for large or small groups
would serve a variety of purposes, and labs
and studios dedicated to specific disciplines
from art to wellness need to be expanded.
Student service areas also need improvement. Imagine more check-out registers in the cafeteria, a bookstore in a more accessible location, and an expanded library with more computers and learning services such as tutoring.
Some buildings need new roofs or other maintenance, and we need more energy efficiencies to further protect the public’s investment.
Guided by long-range strategic planning and community feedback, we’re reviewing the possibilities.
It’s exciting to be looking ahead to a time of
renewal at Lane Community College.
