Renewing Access To Education And Training
It's time for Lane Community College to do its homework—the kind that involves replacing roofs, upgrading lighting and heating, and reconfiguring out-of-date classrooms and labs.
Lane is home to 36,000 students a year.
They're working hard to complete the
first two years of college or to train for
a career. They need modern, wellequipped
learning spaces to prepare
them for the 21st century.
Many facilities at Lane have sustained
more than 40 years of use. Renovations
would increase access to high demand
classes and programs.
To that end, Lane's Board of Education
has carefully considered whether to ask
voters to renew the college’s bond in
the November election.
Renewing the bond would continue the
current tax rate approved by voters in
1995—it would not increase the rate.
In a recent survey, 87 percent of district
residents said they valued the accessible
and affordable education and training
that Lane provides.
We agree. And it's time to do our homework.
