What's Big in Lane County? RV Manufacturing!
The RV manufacturing industry is one of Lane County's strongest employment sectors. Lane Community College provides relevant career training opportunities in our Manufacturing Technology program, including machining, CNC, and CAM courses; fabrication and welding; and electronics.
Machinists perform diverse setups and operate machine tools that cut and form all types of metal parts. They also plan the sequence of operations according to blueprints, layouts, or other instructions. Using micrometers, gauges, and other precision measuring instruments, completed work adheres to specification requirements and tolerance limits.
Lane has a 10,000 sq. ft. lab that features 40 major machine tools including CNC mills, CNC lathes, computers and software that runs some machines.
Employers hire skilled workers in fabricating metal products, industrial machinery and equipment, rubber and plastic products, transportation equipment, and primary metals. Journeymen may start their own machine shops.
The pay is good-
- $20/hour Oregon average
- $18/hour Lane County average
