Structure and Function of ASLCC

Thank you for your interest in Student Government.  Every student who is currently enrolled in one or more credit classes on the main campus and has paid the mandatory student body fee at LCC is a member of the Associated Students of Lane Community College (ASLCC).  This pamphlet outlines the structure and policies of the ASLCC.

Twenty representatives comprise the Student Government.  The Executive cabinet consists of:  President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Campus Events and Multicultural Program Coordinator.  The Staff consists of:  Administrative Assistant, Communication Director, Student Resource Center/Food Services Director, Director of State Affairs and Book Consignment Director.   The remaining ten (10) positions are Senators-at-Large.

The ASLCC is governed by several documents.  The ASLCC Constitution outlines the basic form of Student Government and its policies and may be changed only by a vote of the student body.  The ASLCC By-Laws provide more specific information: Job descriptions for student representatives, election rules, and other guidelines for Senate business and policies and can we changed at an ASLCC weekly meeting.  In addition to the Constitution and By-Laws, the Student Government is also required to comply with all Lane Community College policies and procedures.

The ASLCC serves as the voice of the students on campus and provides programs and services based on student needs and requests.  The ASLCC budget is based on a portion of the Mandatory ASLCC Student Activity fee.   Other organizations that receive a portion of the fee are Denali, Pow Wow,  International Student Program, Women’s Center and Legal Services. Childcare Co-op, Student Health Services, OSPIRG, Oregon Student Association (OSA), TORCH, the Athletic Department, Student Productions and the Long House building fee. The ASLCC Senate may also provide limited funding for clubs, organizations, programs, and departments that request financial assistance.  Groups interested in requesting funds from the Council of Clubs, or from ASLCC should contact the ASLCC office for request forms and to be placed on the agenda to present the request.  No requests are granted without a representative from the organization requesting the funds present at the meeting where the request is being considered.

Meetings:
ASLCC holds one (1) meeting each week to discuss and take action on funding proposals, school policy changes, new club formations, leadership trainings, conferences, speakers & events on campus, voter registration and student suggestions.  Senate meetings last two hours and all students, staff and faculty are welcome.   Meetings for 2010 - 2011 are on Mondays from 3 to 5 in Building #1, Room 206.

Committees:
Committees handle many student issues.   There are several standing committees:  Budget Committee, Elections Committee, and the Judiciary Committee.  All other committees are referred to as Ad-Hoc Committees; they are formed to deal with specific issues that are not covered under Standing Committees.

Book Consignment:
Located in the Center Building in front of the Library.  The Consignment takes in used books on a contract basis for students to sell.  A list from the LCC Bookstore is provided of all currently used books for classes per term and keeps students up to date on prices on new and used books in the bookstore.  The student lists the books they wish to sell on a contract and the prices they wish to sell them for.  A deadline is given to the student as to when they need to pick up their money or their books.  The Consignment keeps 10% of sales for printing and graphics, copy machine and telephone charges.  Federal Work Study & Learn to Earn students are hired every term to work in the Consignment along with the appointed Director.

Clubs:
One of the primary ASLCC programs is support and  recognition of the clubs on campus.  Student clubs may be formed around a common interest.  Official recognition by the ASLCC provides clubs with the following benefits:  Use of media equipment, campus facilities, and limited club funding from ASLCC.  Every Club needs to be reinstated every year so that financial records are clear and so the office can maintain a record of current clubs and meeting times.  For more information see http://2011sitearchive.lanecc.edu/cops/organ.htm.

Student Resource Center
The Student Resource Center (Snack Shack) is located is in the Student Services Building #1 on the second floor.  It is designed to provide information on campus services and answer many other questions asked by students and visitors.   The SRC also provides a communication link between students and Student Government.  Federal Work Study students help the Director every term.
