HEALTH AND WELLNESS CENTER
Instructional equipment and office and classroom furniture move in is underway. Faculty and staff begin moving in on August 23. Plantings around the building have been completed. Expect the job office and fencing to be gone by August 24. Contact Brian McMurray, 5829.

HEALTH AND WELLNESS CENTER

Some work remains inside to complete the AV and SIM lab installations. This should be completed by August 13. Move-in of existing equipment and new classroom furniture has started. Office furniture is being installed this week. Trees and plants have gone in around the building as landscape work nears completion. The Health and Wellness Center is still on target to become a certified green building through the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system. The building is expected to use 50 percent less water and 43 percent less energy than a traditional building. "Low-emitting" paints, adhesives, carpets, and other materials have been used to help improve indoor air quality and operable windows will allow occupants to have more control over fresh air supply and temperature. HEALTH AND WELLNESS CENTER

Punch list work and finishing touches are ongoing inside. Finish floor cleaning and sealing will begin July 21 and move in of existing equipment will follow. Landscaping work will continue for the next few weeks. The concrete paving, boardwalk and pedestrian bridge deck are nearly complete. HEALTH AND WELLNESS CENTER

A temporary certificate of occupancy has been received. Punch list work and finishing touches continue inside. Lane's moving crew will begin bringing in exercise and instructional equipment this week. The landscaping and flatwork continues outside. The wooden boardwalk on south side of building is being installed. All landscaping and site work will continue throughout July. At times this work may involve equipment exhaust, dust and noise. HEALTH AND WELLNESS CENTER

Interior cleanup is underway and will be followed by punch list inspections during the first week of July. Landscaping crew has started work on irrigation lines. Work continues on exterior flatwork. June 15, 2010
HEALTH AND WELLNESS CENTER
Interior finish out continues, including work on plastic wall panels, installing doors and sliding doors, and testing the night flush ventilation system. Final code inspections of the various trade work is ongoing and will continue through the week of June 14. Interior cleanup will start June 21 and be completed July 2, followed by punch list inspections. On the exterior, work will continue bringing in landscaping materials and completing flatwork. HEALTH AND WELLNESS CENTER

Interior concrete floor finishing will be completed this week. Expect exterior cement board installation to be completed this week. Boardwalk footings have been poured and sidewalks have been removed to make way for new walkways and landscaping. Wet weather has hampered progress on site work and has delayed the start of landscaping. Once started, landscaping and irrigation work will continue into July. HEALTH AND WELLNESS CENTER

Floors have been uncovered in preparation for concrete floor polishing and finishing and racks for solar hot water panes have been erected on the roof. Boardwalk footings have been poured and sidewalks have been removed to make way for new walkways and landscaping. This work will lead into prep work for the landscaping which is scheduled to be completed June 1, weather permitting. Landscaping and irrigation work will continue into July. HEALTH AND WELLNESS CENTER

Work continues on the inside wall finishes, i.e., cement panels, bamboo plywood, and painting. Flooring is also being installed in offices, and work is underway installing interior plastic panels in the ‘alveolus' feature of the building. The concrete floors on the first floor will be uncovered this week in preparation for polishing and finishing. Work continues outside of the building preparing for and pouring sidewalks and boardwalk footings. This will overlap with prep work for the landscaping which is scheduled to be completed by June 1, weather permitting. Landscaping and irrigation work will continue into July. HEALTH AND WELLNESS CENTER

Work continues on inside wall finishes i.e. cement panels, bamboo, plywood, and painting. Flooring is also being installed in offices. Work continues installing window vent motors and flashing for the alveolus (glass lung). Cement panels are also being installed around outside of the building. There will be equipment on site this week working on a variety of tasks, including underground piping and prep work for walkways and steps. April 6, 2010
HEALTH AND WELLNESS CENTER

Cooling panels and ceiling grids continue to be installed in ceilings on both floors. Outside excavating work continues for forming and pouring of concrete walls and footings. Building connections to chilled and heated water lines have been completed. Main power connection was completed over spring break. Plumbers are working in the tunnel, making connections to distribute the water that will be heated by solar panels which will be mounted on the building's roof. Work has begun on installing glass vents and motors on both floors. Exterior cement panels are expected to arrive early this week. A tent has been set up on site to store and prep those panels. HEALTH & WELLNESS BUILDING

Steel frame for the bridge to building 4 was erected last week and work is set to begin on the bridge canopies and painting the steel this week. Painters are also working inside the building painting on both floors, and casework is beginning to go in. Cooling panels and ceiling grids are being installed in ceilings as well as bathroom partitions and fixtures. Work continues outside on excavating for footings and site features. Building connections to chilled and heated water lines are to occur over spring break. The main power connection will also occur over spring break, but there will not be a power shut-down associated with this electrical work. HEALTH & WELLNESS BUILDING

Footings and support posts for the bridge that connects the new Health and Wellness building to building 4 are in place. Steel for the bridge has arrived and cranes will begin setting bridge steel on March 15. One set of exterior stairs on the north elevation of building 4 has been removed. A new bridge will connect with the upper landing of stairs remaining in building 4. A concrete wall has been poured for the storm water planter, which is located adjacent to the south elevation of the building. This type of site work will be ongoing for the next two to three months, as the exterior landscape and hardscape come together. Painting and tile work continues inside on both floors. Work also continues on skylights. The project team met with the building and donor signage consultant on March 10 to initiate the design process. Plumbing work for the solar/thermal segment of project has begun in the tunnel. Tie-ins to chilled and heating piping will occur over spring break. The main power connection will also occur over spring break, but a power shut down is not necessary for this work. Expect noise from construction activities for the immediate future. HEALTH & WELLNESS BUILDING

Work continues on the outside excavating and pouring concrete for bridge footings (a bridge connection to building 4) and planter walls.  This type of site work will be ongoing for the next 2-3 months, as the exterior landscape and hardscape comes together.  The county has given approval to remove one of the building 4 exterior set of stairs.  More information on this work will be forthcoming.  Painting and tile work continues inside on both floors.  Work also continues on skylights.  A building and donor signage consultant has been selected.  Plumbing work for the solar/thermal segment of the project is to begin Monday in the tunnel.  Tie-ins to the chilled and heating piping will occur over spring break as will a main power connection, but there will not be a power shut-down connected with this work.  Expect noise from construction activities for the immediate future.  Project completion expected August, 2010.  Contact Brian McMurray, 5829.

Installation of wallboard is complete on the first floor and underway on the second floor. Mechanical

Exterior insulation panels have been installed. Window frames are in place and glass is being installed. Once glass is installed, heat can be brought into the building. Interior wall framing is nearing completion and insulation of wallboard has begun. Building elevator has been installed and will be completed when building power is brought in. HEALTH & WELLNESS BUILDING
Framing for the interior walls is proceeding on the second floor. Placement of insulation panels on the exterior walls is near completion. Fire protection, rough-in plumbing and electrical, and HVAC duct work are proceeding on the second floor as well. Membrane of the roof is 97 percent complete. Installation of windows and floor grinding/polishing is to begin during the week of December 14. Expect noise from construction activities initially, but expect nothing out of the ordinary through the end of next week. Project completion is expected August 2010. The concrete roof deck is complete and roofers have started the installation of single-ply roofing membrane. Framing for exterior walls is proceeding and placement of insulation panels on the exterior walls has begun. Fire protection, rough-in plumbing and HVAC duct work are nearing completion on the first floor and have now began on the second floor. Underground lines from building 4 for chilled and heated water are currently being installed. Large roof drains (scuppers) are also being installed. The contractor continues to tie steel and install curbs and decking for remaining concrete pours on the roof. Framing is underway for protruding windows and exterior walls on north side of building. First floor fire protection, rough-in plumbing and HVAC duct work nearing completion. Underground lines from building 4 for chilled and heated water are currently being installed. A preconstruction meeting was held 11/13 for single-ply roofing installation. Expect noise from construction activities in the immediate future. Project completion is expected August 2010. Contractor made first concrete pour on roof deck October 30. Work continues tying steel and installing decking for remaining concrete pours on roof. Crushed rock has been brought in as temporary fill material to improve worker and equipment access to the building. Work has begun on exterior wall framing. HEALTH & WELLNESS BUILDING

The exterior work around building 4 is mostly complete, including ramps, rails and plantings. On Wednesday and Thursday, September 2-3, the contractor will be pouring floor slabs. The pours will start at 4:00 a.m. and will take four to five hours. Contact David Amundson, (541) 463-3455.

HEALTH & WELLNESS UPDATE

The contractor is continuing to install footings and backfilling foundation walls with gravel.  On August 28, concrete trucks will be coming in from 4:00 a.m. to about noon for the concrete slab pour. Steel is expected to arrive September 7. Contact Todd Smith, (541) 463-5132.

HEALTH & WELLNESS UPDATE

Lease Cructher Lewis, CMGC (Construction Manager General Contractor), is continuing with site mobilization this week. The groundbreaking ceremony on June 2 was a success thanks goes to the Foundation, facilities staff, and everyone else who helped. The contractor will start the demolition of the tennis courts and the site excavation on June 15. Expect heavy truck traffic entering the north access road from Eldon Schafer Drive and exiting on Gonyea Road. The noise levels during the demolition and site prep will be from extreme to moderate. Lease Cructher Lewis, the CMGC (Construction Manager General Contractor), has their construction office trailer and the site fencing establishing the perimeter of the construction site in place. The groundbreaking ceremony is on June 2 and will start in the front entry garden at 3:30 p.m., then move to the building site for the ceremonial turning of the shovel. The contractor will start the demolition of the tennis courts and the site excavation on June 15. During this period of time we can expect heavy truck traffic on the north access road entering the college on Eldon Shafer Drive and exiting on Gonyea Road. HEALTH & WELLNESS BUILDING UPDATE

The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for June 2 at 3 p.m. The designers are finalizing interior materials. Beginning June 8, the designated parking for dental patients and other health careers parking in the east and middle row of parking lot A will be relocated to parking lot B. The contractor will begin staging equipment and materials in parking lot A. No through traffic will be allowed on the fire lane south of building 4 except for emergency and contractor vehicles and equipment. HEALTH & WELLNESS BUILDING GROUNDBREAKING SET FOR JUNE 2

Weekly project meetings with the Lease Crutcher Lewis, construction manager/general contractor, and SRG Partnership, Inc., architect, began Monday, May 4. HEALTH & WELLNESS AIMING FOR LEED GOLD STANDARD

Facilities, Management and Planning and Information Technology staff at Lane Community College have reviewed the latest drawings and provided input related to maintenance and operations for the Health and Wellness building. Architects are now developing construction documents and will prepare an updated cost estimate. The design currently meets U.S. Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) silver standard and is two to three points from LEED gold standard. The general contractor is scheduled to mobilize and begin demolition of the tennis courts June 15. A contractor staging area will be established in the parking lots west of the tennis courts so there will be less parking in lot A for the next 12-15 months beginning in June. HEALTH and WELLNESS BUILDING UPDATE

Architects have completed the design development stage and are at the LEED silver standard (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). Designers and college facilities staff are looking at ways to reach LEED gold. The next cost estimate will be available in two weeks. The project is on schedule for a June 15 groundbreaking. Once the construction phase of the project begins, there will be equipment and trucks traveling on Eldon Schafer Drive through Parking Lot N, and on the north access road next to the athletic fields. CONGRESSMAN DEFAZIO HELPS SECURE $330,000 FOR LANE

The federal omnibus spending bill signed into law by President Obama on March 11 includes $330,000 for Lane nursing labs and equipment. Congressman Peter DeFazio worked for the appropriation over the past year. Last month, DeFazio met with Lane officials attending a summit of the Association of Community College Trustees and American Association of Community College in Washington D.C.
