Sherry Duerst-Higgins:Supporting Kids and Community
Ask real estate broker Sherry Duerst-Higgins where she gets her passion for public service, and she’s quick to say it’s all about “kids and community.”
The Cottage Grove resident spent 22 years on the South Lane School Board and went on to lead the Oregon School Boards Association as its president. In light of that long standing commitment, the University of Oregon plans to give Duerst-Higgins its Friend of Education award—which delights Sherry, because her two degrees (Dental Assisting and Real Estate) come from Lane.
Sherry also has been a local business and Chamber of Commerce leader with many awards to her name—including Cottage Grove’s First Citizen honor.
When she ventures to name her most prized accomplishment, Sherry says it has to be getting a new high school built in Cottage Grove. She says she hopes to add a new community swimming pool to her list in the not-too-distant future.
The Lane Community College Foundation is proud to recognize Sherry Duerst-Higgins as a Distinguished Alumni.
