Lorraine Kerwood: Takes the Next Step
Lorraine Kerwood has looked to Lane Community College for almost 20 years to achieve her dreams.
Lorraine started with adult education classes and then took college credit classes and joined the Transitions to Success program for women. She transferred to the University of Oregon and earned a bachelor’s degree, then returned to Lane for the Nonprofit Management Program at the Business Development Center.
Today she is founder and director of the nonprofit business, NextStep Recycling. Her habit of tinkering with computers first led to a hobby called MacRenewal where she refurbished old Macs in her mother-in-law’s garage and gave them to the poor and the elderly. Then she added PCs and other electronic equipment, and NextStep Recycling was born.
Lorraine provides internships for Lane students at NextStep Recycling and she also serves on the Lane’ Computer Information Advisory Committee.
She has won many awards including the Volvo for Life Award, the Woman Business Leader of the Year Award from the Eugene Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Lane Community College Foundation’s Distinguished Alumni Award.
