Faculty Spotlight: Kelly Collins
You can’t keep Kelly Collins out of the classroom.
In the mornings, he studies nursing. In the afternoons, he teaches Health Records Technology.
Since Kelly knows what it's like to sweat a test, he uses interaction and humor to help students relax. He wrote a popular Pictionary game to explain the difficult jargon of medical terminology.
He's taught at Lane since 2002. "Student interaction and small class size" make Lane a special place for both teacher and learner, Kelly says.
His LCC training as a certified nurse assistant and phlebotomy assistant enriches his teaching. He's also an attorney, with a law degree from the University of Oregon. His bachelor’s degree is from the University of Missouri.
He can't wait to start working as a nurse practitioner and bring that perspective back to his students.
Lane Community College offers a one-year certificate in Health Records Technology. For details, go online to 2011sitearchive.lanecc.edu/fhc/hrt
