Faculty Spotlight: Julia Munkvold
Teaching the nurses of today and tomorrow
Julia Munkvold’s proudest achievement in her teaching career is assisting thousands of students to "move into the professional nurse role with a sense of excellence and caring."
Since coming to Lane in 1980, she has "taught just
about every nursing course at one time or another,"
and Julia has been the coordinator of the nursing
program for the past three years. She has been at
the forefront of change in nursing education through
her involvement in web-based instruction, simulation
technology, and collaboration with the Oregon
Consortium for Nursing Education.
Students benefit from Julia's education and professional
experience. She’s worked as a registered nurse in a
variety of settings including intensive care, emergency,
and surgery. She earned a bachelor of science in
nursing from the University of New Mexico, a master's
in education from the University of Oregon, and a
master's in nursing from Oregon Health Sciences
University.
Julia is retiring in June but she won't be leaving Lane. She will continue to be involved with planning for Lane's new Health and Wellness building. Says Julia, "I will never stop being an advocate for Lane’s nursing program."
