Cambra WardCambra Ward: From intern to vice president

Cambra Ward has a big job. She's the vice president and general manager of KMTR-TV and the regional vice president of the Northwest Group for Clear Channel Television. Before her graduation from Lane Community College in 1984 with an associate of science degree in Broadcast and Visual Design, she took the first steps to reach her current position with an internship through Lane as a studio camera operator.

Cambra has had a tremendous impact on our community. She established a local Community Leader Advisory Board, and she serves on the Board of Directors for the local Big Brother, Big Sister program and the YMCA. She was also instrumental in helping implement Oregon’s Amber Alert Plan with her work on the Oregon Association of Broadcasters Board of Directors. Cambra has kept a connection to Lane Community College by encouraging KMTR to participate in the college’s job fairs and internship programs to share opportunities with other students who are using Lane as the stepping stone to a successful future.

"One of my fondest memories of my time at Lane is walking into the studio and the control room for the first time and thinking, ‘I'll never understand how all this works.' All the buttons, the tape machines and the equipment. It was very intimidating," she says. "I realized after a few classes that it wasn't going to be as tough as I thought. Every instructor made it seem so easy. They were encouraging, patient and willing to provide creative input when needed."

"When I started my internship at KMTR, the same intimidating feeling came back when I walked into the studio control room. But knowing that I felt that same way at LCC a couple years before, and overcame that feeling, it provided me with confidence that I could learn and succeed at KMTR."

The Lane Community College Foundation is proud to recognize Cambra Ward as a Distinguished Alumni.
