Faculty Spotlight: Margaret Robertson
Planning for the Future
Lane instructor Margaret Robertson balances her roles as educator and planner by allowing them to intertwine.
Margaret teaches engineering graphics, landscape
technology, and mechanical drafting courses, and
she is the recipient of one of Lane’s 2008 Faculty
Recognition Awards. The award recognizes her significant
contributions to the quality of academic life.
“It is always a thrill to watch the love-of-learning spark take hold,” says Robertson, who has been teaching at Lane since 1998 and has a master’s degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Oregon and a professional background in heavy equipment design.
Margaret finds drafting and engineering graphics“fascinating” and of broad consequence because they have to do with either understanding how the world works or how to communicate clearly through drawings.” Clear and accurate drafting is a key step in making machine parts for manufacturing the high-quality products that we use in our daily lives. When she’s not in the classroom, Margaret deftly chairs Lane’s Facilities Council. This interdisciplinary council authored the college’s long-range campus plan that makes recommendations about how to create places that are accessible, sustainable and user-friendly.
The heart of the long-range plan is a set of strategic development directions, and these strategic directions were used to generate the list of renovation projects that could be realized if voters approve Lane's upcoming bond measure.
