Molly BedorthaMolly Bedortha: Caring for the Community

Imagine being a nurse with 24,000 possible patients. That’s the large and varied practice that Molly Bedortha maintains as a leader of the Triage Team at the University of Oregon’s Student Health Center.

Molly is well-accustomed to mixing some listening and advising with her healing efforts. After receiving her degree in Licensed Practical Nursing from Lane Community Col-lege, Bedortha took a job at Sacred Heart Medical Center’s Pediatric Unit. Almost immediately, she began working on her next Lane degree, her Registered Nursing degree, by studying at night and on weekends.

After completing her RN, she began working for the Eu-gene Clinic (now PeaceHealth Medical Group). There she became one of the founding members of the Ask-A-Nurse program, a popular telephone-based service that for six years offered telephone advice to people seeking to man-age medical conditions or wondering whether they needed to see a doctor.

Like many Lane graduates, Molly has worked her way through each stage of her career while also balancing the demands of work, family, and community service. Over the years, that real-world experience has made Molly an invaluable mentor and advocate for students in Lane’s nursing programs.

The Lane Community College Foundation is proud to recognize Molly Bedortha as a Distinguished Alumni.
