Alison Donway's career took flight at Lane
-By Michele Erickson
After Alison Donway graduated cum laude with a bachelor's degree in both English and economics, she decided to pursue an associate of applied science degree in Flight Technology at Lane Community College. Now, as service manager for the 750 pilots who fly for Horizon Air, she says, "Lane's flight program was the best choice by far" to give her the skills she needed for a successful career in aviation.
As pilot services manager, Alison acts as the liaison between Horizon Air and the Federal Aviation Administration. She is an advocate and mentor for many young pilots entering the field. Allison works actively with the Women in Aviation International Organization, and volunteers with the Portland public schools supporting and encouraging young women in the fields of math, science and engineering.
Alison continues to support Lane as the Horizon Air liaison. She meets regularly with the director of the Lane Aviation Academy. As an accomplished instructor in the program, she was instrumental in the donation of a Frasca 142 simulator which is used to simulate conditions when flying without reference to the horizon. This is great preparation for Lane students.
"I would have to say it was the people who made the department special," Alison says. "From the administrative assistants who keep the place running, to each and every instructor, Lane is truly a special place. I felt all along that each individual was looking out for me to be successful in both my academic endeavors as well as the pursuit of my career in aviation."
The Lane Foundation is proud to recognize Alison Donway as a recipient of the 2007 Distinguished Alumni Award.
