Fonts, Headings and Links
Fonts and Headings
Most of the type appearing on the website is Verdana, because of its high legibility on computer monitors. You can view the standard for type size and type placement on webpages in the Templates section.
Page headings should be short (one to four words) and accurately describe the primary content on the page.
Links
Use links effectively to connect visitors to related information on the site. Linking to information can help avoid redundancy of information on the site.
Lane's homepage (http://2011sitearchive.lanecc.edu) is the first screen of information you see when you visit the college on the web. For consistency purposes when linking to this page, please refer to this page as the college's one and only “homepage.” The first webpage for a college department should be labeled "main" page.
E-mail links must be to an LCC e-mail account only. Please be sure that the e-mail account will be checked frequently for incoming mail and that responses are sent in a timely manner.
Links to sites outside of Lane Community College must be to resources only and not to sponsor or donor sites. In those cases, the business or group name may be listed on Lane’s website, but without a link.
Be sure to clearly identify the links that are off of the Lane website.
When creating links to outside sites, web authors are responsible for clearly identifying the Internet location, respecting copyright or intellectual property rights and avoiding obscene or objectionable content.
The Lane website uses consistent colors for identifying links. The template designs use the desired link colors so by using the templates you will not need to adjust the link colors to meet the guidelines for link colors. For more information on the effective use of links, see Writing for the Web.
