I originally hail from upstate New York, where I grew up playing in the forests and streams of Rockland County.  After a B.S. degree in Biology from State U. of New York at Albany, I migrated West to Utah State University to pursue a Masters degree in Ecology, with a special interest in Avian physiology (and some skiing!).  My thesis work was performed at the San Diego Zoo, while assisting in a captive breeding program of endangered birds.  After graduating, I joined a field research team studying the endangered California Condor.  I then moved to the San Francisco area where I taught Community College and High School Biology for 8 years.  After moving to Eugene in 1990, I began to teach at LCC part-time, and in 1994 become a full-time instructor.  I love to teach, and I love Biology; my commitment to my students is to convey that enthusiasm so that they may appreciate the "study of life" in their own lives.  Besides teaching, my other interests include birding, hiking, photography, "classic rock" music, computers, learning Spanish, and hanging out with my lovely wife, Jeri, and my nine-year old son, Jake.  I teach the following classes at Lane:

  • Biology 101: Survey of Biology (traditional section)
  • Biology 101: Survey of Biology (online section)
  • Biology 102: Animal Biology
  • Biology 102: Survey of Biology
  • Biology 101: Survey of Biology (online section)
  • Biology 103: Birds of Oregon
  • Biology 103: Field Biology
  • Biology 103: Field Biology in Costa Rica
