We, the Strategic Planning Project Team, are pleased to present
this plan for the college. We believe it will significantly enhance our
ability to provide effective, comprehensive educational programs and services,
now and into the future.
The plan's foundation is quality education, education that meets the
needs of the community and provides the setting in which students can enrich
and transform their lives. The plan describes broad institutional directions
and goals identified as essential to the college in accomplishing its mission.
These institutional directions and goals are, by their nature, dynamic
and interrelated, making this document a work in progress designed to be
reviewed and updated regularly to ensure that educational quality remains
our highest priority.
The next step is for all of us - through departments, teams, councils
and divisions - to use the institutional directions and goals to develop
action plans with objectives that will guide us in our daily work. The
knowledge and expertise of staff, especially those closest to the issues,
will be essential in this task. From this work a flow of accountability
will be established and priorities supported through resource allocation.
Work groups that are here this summer can begin working when they are ready.
A collegewide process will be launched this fall.
Several hundred staff and many community members contributed to the
development of our strategic plan and it will be through all our efforts
that the vision will be actualized. This plan will enable us to maintain
the traditional strengths of a comprehensive and caring institution while
continuing the transformation into the learning college we aspire to create.
