Office of Academic and Student Affair Communications | return to Communications [printable version] (.pdf requires Adobe Reader) October 26, 2010 Colleagues: By now you have heard that the first of a year-long series of conferences focused on implementing key strategic directions will take place this Friday, October 29th, from 8:30 to 3:30 in the CML. Friday’s conference explores how faculty and staff can use emerging Web 2.0 technologies to continue to create environments that promote student learning and success. We are calling it The iLane Technology Conference. All departments have been invited to send teams with a team lead, and teams will work throughout the year. But faculty and staff who are not part of a team are welcome to attend the plenary session of Friday’s conference, which runs from 8:30-10:30 am. Our keynote speaker, Barry Dahl, joins us from Lake Superior College, where he serves as Vice President for Technology. Mr. Dahl will share his experiences working in Web 2.0 educational and work environments, and will talk about e-learning and working tools in online and face-to-face environments. You can check him out at http://barrydahl.com/ This plenary session will have something for everyone at Lane. If you are interested in attending, please tell your department manager, who is responsible for registration. In coming years, students from all walks of life will come to expect Web 2.0 technologies in all facets of their educational and work experiences, and Lane plans to meet them where they are, helping them to maximize their potential as learners in the 21st century. The iLane planning team (Brad Hinson, Meredith Keene-Wilson, Ian Coronado, Vicky Kirkpatrick, John Watson, John Hamblin, Todd Lutz, Sonya Christian) has put together an engaging day for all, and I look forward to seeing you at the morning plenary or working with your teams throughout the year. There will be similar conferences on the topic of student progression and completion beginning in January; more on that later. Regards, Sonya |
