Improving Student Success and Retention through
Curricular Design and Infusion

A Two-Day Interdisciplinary Faculty Development Workshop

September 15th and 16th, 2010 from 9 am- 3pm at Lane Community College

Sponsored by Learning Communities, Title III and
Lane’s English Department

Powerpoint Introduction to the Workshop

Workshop Handout of Curricular Materials

Readings for Workshop

Workshop Goals

  • To provide an opportunity to meet with Lane faculty from your own discipline and other disciplines to learn about and discuss pedagogies and practices proven to help improve student retention and success in your classes
  • To build and share faculty expertise about what it takes for students to be more successful in all their courses
  • To create curricular infusions and explicit instruction in student success practices and principles
  • To develop and share assignments, readings, activities and strategies for adaptation by faculty across campus

We welcome faculty from all disciplines to join us, although we especially encourage Writing, Math and ALS faculty to participate because of their role in first year students’ academic progress.  Faculty will be paid for hours attended plus 4 hours for reading and preparation. We will use a team approach to curriculum design, so if you know of members of your department with whom you’d like to work on this project, encourage them to register!

List of Participants

The workshop agenda will include interdisciplinary discussion sessions of College Success strategies with discipline-specific team sessions for work on curriculum development projects.  Whether you attended last September’s workshop or not, this is a great opportunity to work with your colleagues to improve your courses.  Fill out the registration form here and send it to Anne McGrail in LLC.  Or send an email with the information (name, courses you teach, summer contact info, agreement to share your work on the moodle site) to mcgraila@lanecc.edu . Be sure to include your summer email contact information so that I can contact you with any readings etc.
