LIMT Meeting Minutes

Updates/Announcements
- ExpressLane hits
- Advance Registration for fall term began today. The system is running slow, and there are a few problems related to data in the system. The Student Core Team is working on these with the academic departments. Some students are experiencing other difficulties unrelated to the implementation, such as not understanding eligibility for the advance registration process.
- In the past month, the number of individuals (headcount) logging into ExpressLane each day ranged from a low of 38 on July 4 to a high of 2,083 on June 23, the first day of summer term. LIMT noted that logins on Mondays are generally highest, with weekends being lowest
- July 21 meeting
- The July 21st meeting is cancelled.
CServices Events
- Check out Oracle 9i
- All modules should be sure to run normal processes in TEST this week to make sure that the installation of Oracle 9i does not disrupt functionality. Barring problems, Computer Services will install Oracle 9i in the production database next weekend (July 19 – 20).
- Databases
- Computer Services will clone the production database to TEST the weekend of July 19. They will also begin installing Banner 6.x in all non-production instances the next week. Additional clones will not be possible until the Banner 6.x install in the production database takes place the weekend of August 30-31.
- Resolving technical problems
- LIMT reviewed the number of database instances. Programmers feel strongly that they need a development instance that is not used by functional users. Each functional area should review the following questions:
- Can training and testing be done in the same instance?
- Can these functions be done with a sub-set of data rather than a complete copy of the database?
Issues
- ClassLine/Gradeline, Syllabi
- LIMT noted that there may be information that faculty routinely provide to students on class syllabi such as phone numbers for Classline, Gradeline and voicemail that are out of date. Chuck and Jane will discuss this issue with instructional managers as needed to make sure the issue is brought to the attention of faculty at the departmental level.
- Phase II Workplan
- Feedback from modules
- LIMT needs feedback from each module about Phase II implementation plans. The project manager requested that each team provide to her an electronic list of their Phase II plans in the following categories:
- Business cycle tasks,
- Banner functionality not yet implemented,
- Interfaces and systems (current and new), and
- Training
- Interfaces/Systems
- Additionally, each team should review the possible additional products list and identify which are of interest to their functional area and whether their area might “pilot” an implementation of that functionality.
- Phase II planning should provide for broad participation by and communication with the campus community. Some of the projects might lend themselves to a “pilot” approach, and some may require targeted information and participation to specific areas of the college. At times, members of the LIMT team may be more appropriate advocates and communicators of specific projects than the project manager. In some cases, the project will need strategic decisions before moving forward (integrating course management software, for example.)
Module Updates as Needed
- HR – Thwing is working on capturing payroll information to use in the testing of Banner 6.x.
Departments are being asked to develop unit plans as part of the accreditation process. This process may result in staff training needs for getting information from Banner in order to develop the unit plans, and Eric may be involved in developing this training.
- SPIT and representatives from the Student Core Team met today with Peer to Peer about class scheduling. It was a productive meeting.
- LIMT discussed Banner and Beyond and determined that this group has probably completed its work. LIMT would like a final report from Banner and Beyond. The work begun by this group will become important to the implementation team for the SCT Datamart, if LIMT decides to move forward with this project. The SCT Datamart products can accommodate Banner and non-Banner information. There is also much functionality in Banner to store data in flexible data structures.
Other
- Duplicate PIDMs are becoming a significant problem. This is primarily an issue that involves HR and Student. The college needs processes to resolve the duplicates that already exist and also to prevent or minimize new duplicates.
- LIMT may want to be on the Peer-to-Peer agenda each month. Linda will contact Donna Zmolek about whether they would be interested in this.
