Report to the Lane Community College Board
LASR Project
November, 2001
The project is on schedule and within budget.
CAMPUS COMMUNICATION
During the past month, Linda DeWitt and James Brunner have visited various
parts of the college community providing information about the project
and gathering information about problems, issues and specific concerns. Visit
sites include the Cottage Grove and Florence campuses, the Downtown Center,
Flight Technology, and the Business Development Center. Meetings
have also been held with Training and Development staff, Personnel Services,
a group of college administrative assistants, the Faculty Council and
the Managers' Forum. Linda also provides regular updates to the
Technology Advising and Coordinating Team (TACT) and the general campus
through announcements in the Daily and LASR Update sessions, scheduled
in the Boardroom from 3:00 to 5:00 on the first Friday of each month.
STEERING COMMITTEE
As a result of Kyle Hammon's appointment as Interim Science Division
Chair, Bob Barber has replaced him as the faculty representative
for the LASR Steering Committee. The student who was serving
on this shared governance committee is unable to continue, and the
LASR Project Office is working with the student body president to
identify a replacement.
FINANCE
The second SCT configuration visit for Finance occurred October 9, 10
and 11. Dennis Wilson, SCT Finance Trainer and Consultant, provided
the training. Members of the Finance Core Team are working on the
chart of accounts for the college in preparation for Dennis's next
visit, November 13, 14 and 15. Stan Barker, team leader for
the Finance implementation attended several of the information sessions
over the past month, gathering insights from campus departments about
finance issues.
HUMAN RESOURCES
The first SCT configuration visit for Human Resources is scheduled for
October 30 through November 1. Participants in the implementation of
this module include:
Sharon Daniels, Benefits
Tasha Drake, Budget Specialist
Vicki Ellison, Benefits

Carol Goldsberry, Recruitment Specialist

Germaine Mock, Personnel Operations
Becky Patrick, Federal Work Study

USER INTERFACE, VALIDATION PROCESS
The LASR Implementation Management Team (LIMT) is working on processes
for users of the system to participate appropriately in the design phase. While
it is not reasonable or cost-effective to provide widespread participation
in the configuration sessions, it is important that the users of the
system are involved in all phases of planning to make sure that the configuration
will work from every perspective and that the user interfaces make sense
to the students, staff, faculty and managers who will use the systems.
CATALOG (STUDENT SYSTEM)
Although the Student module is not scheduled to begin until January 2002,
the project has begun working on the first part of this implementation,
the development of Lane's ìvirtualî catalog. This is the data about
Lane's courses that is stored in the main Banner system and that will
drive the development of the printed catalog, class schedule and several
internal processes including faculty workload and FTE reporting. Currently,
there is no central database that includes both credit and non-credit
offerings. The challenge of bringing all this information together
in the Banner integrated database has prompted college staff to begin
working on this prior to the start date for this phase of the project.

DeWitt, Ext. 3006, or visit our web site at http://2011sitearchive.lanecc.edu/lasr/. For
