Report to the Lane Community College Board
LASR Project
July, 2003

All initial Banner module implementations were completed on time and under budget.

PROJECT ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
In 2 ½ years, the college successfully researched, purchased and implemented a new administrative software system.
All Banner modules are ěliveî. For 2003-2004 and beyond, the college will conduct all business activity in Banner.  Major milestones include:
Date Accomplishment
January, 2001  LASR Steering Committee charters Phase I Team to complete the RFP and product selection processes.
June, 2001  Phase I complete. Board approves purchase of SCT Banner and project budget.
August, 2001  Project staffing and facilities in place. Project planning with SCT begins.
September, 2001  Finance implementation phase begins.
October, 2001  HR implementation phase begins.
January, 2002  Student implementation phase begins.
May, 2002  Financial Aid implementation phase begins.
July, 2002  Finance ěGo Liveî
January, 2003 HR ěGo Liveî
March, 2003  Financial Aid ěGo Liveî
June, 2003  Student ěGo Liveî

In the course of this project, 97 staff members participated directly in implementation activities, often in more than one role. Teams included the Phase I RFP Team, the LASR Steering Committee, the LASR Implementation Management Team (LIMT), the Finance, HR, Student and Financial Aid Teams, the Space Implementation Team (Series 25), and the wonderful group of technical staff from Computer Services.  Approximately 100 additional staff members supported the implementation teams by providing information about operational details, feedback on the implementation planning, and perception checking of implementation assumptions and directions from the user perspective.

Training was another major task. Implementation teams have provided the following training to Lane's staff and students:
Module Training Headcount Types of Training
Finance  185  6
HR  1,534 3
Financial Aid  82 3
Student (staff)  350 11
Student (students)  450 1

The COCO software is being shut down program by program, as each is no longer useful.  The HP3000 hardware will be brought down for the last time on September 30, after the final tasks have been run and all significant data is extracted and moved either to Banner, or to other Oracle tables on the new HP9000.

NEXT STEPS, IMPLEMENTATION ń PHASE 2
During the final phase of implementation, the LASR Project will focus on the following:

  • Business cycle tasks and processes as they need to be done in Banner for the first time
  • Implementation of Banner functionality that we skipped in the first pass, because it was not ěcritical pathî
  • Interfaces and systems external to Banner
  • Additional training
  • Additional products, which may include:
    • Datamart
    • Workflow
    • Document Imaging
    • Web portal
    • Interface to course management software
