Report to the Lane Community College Board
LASR Project
July, 2002

The project is on schedule and within budget.  The Finance System is on-line.

FINANCE
The Finance System is Live!  The Finance System went on-line a week early, on June 24th.  This allowed administrative assistants to enter Purchase Orders for materials and services for the upcoming 02-03 year.

Using the new Banner system, all new Lane Purchase Orders are being created, printed, and mailed to vendors with no problems.  (As of July 3rd we had processed 230 Purchase Orders).  College Finance achieved complete 'Live' status for the new system on July 1st, with the addition of the capability to interface student accounts receivable information from the COCO system to the new Banner Finance System. This information will allow the departments to look at the on-line reports and see Student AR data which is still being collected in COCO (until the Student System goes on-line). While the Finance Team had some small adjustments to make during this time, the problems were quickly identified and fixed. This implementation has been classified as a successful "Go Live Without Incident".

In support of the new system, the Finance Team accomplished the first round of Banner Finance training in June, have scheduled additional training in July, and intend to schedule more training in September for returning staff. The team has also recently  added a condensed, one hour, ëOn-line PO Approval' training for managers ñ  focusing on the essentials of LASR and the eXpressLane (web) interface.

The Accounts Payable Team and Computer Services printed 25 sample Lane checks which were sent to the bank for evaluation.  The bank ran the checks through a highly sensitive check reading computer to test that the check printing quality met banking standards; and all the checks cleared the test successfully. When asked how his team was holding up, Stan Barker (Finance Team Leader) said: ìWith the successful 'go live', I believe the morale in the Banner Implementation Team is more upbeat that it has been in months!î

HUMAN RESOURCES
The Human Resources Team continues to refine the rule and validation tables and test the recruitment and payroll systems of Banner.  Human Resources modified the hours the office is open from 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, beginning June 17 and continuing through December 31, to accomplish the Banner transition and implementation.   Work is on schedule for the parallel testing that will take place October through December with "go live" scheduled for January 2003.  Lane employees will begin to receive training on the new Human Resources Banner system in September 2002.

STUDENT
The Student Core Team is busy this summer working with various campus faculty and staff members to prepare for the building of the College's catalog in the pre-production database.  The team continues to work with members of the recently formed Extended Learning Advisory Group (ELAG) on issues surrounding the integration of the credit and non-credit databases into one system. The focus of the July training will be on putting everything in place for the creation of the catalog in the system beginning August 1st.  August's training will be on the recruitment tools available with Banner.  The student system will be "live" for the 2003-2004 academic year.

FINANCIAL AID

The Financial Aid Team participated in their second training during the week of June 24.  The session covered applicant tracking, applicant budgeting, batch posting, and an introduction to the creation of ëpopulation selections'.   The possibility of using E-Notes for Direct Loans and processing of on-line Entrance Counseling was also explored.  The financial aid module is scheduled to be operational for the 2003-2004 academic year, which means a March 3 2003 ìgo liveî date.
