Report to the Lane Community College Board
LASR Project
June, 2003
The project is on schedule and within budget.
All systems are now ěliveî in terms of transactional processing.
FINANCE
An SCT Finance consultant was on campus the week of May 27 to help finance
staff prepare for year-end processing in Banner. Also in May, the
Finance Team provided drop-in lab support for college budget administrators
to facilitate budget and transaction adjustments in preparation for year-end.
Working with Financial Aid and Student Accounts Receivable staff, the
Accounts Payable team successfully completed a test of the financial
aid disbursement process. Sample checks were submitted to the bank for
approval. During the next three months, finance will be focused
on the fiscal year-end process. Contact: Stan Barker Ext. 5608.
HUMAN RESOURCES
The SCT Banner HR consultant is scheduled to be at Lane June 24 ń 26, to
support the fiscal year-end processes. This consulting support is essential
since this fiscal year's work has been completed on two different human
resource information systems. Semi-monthly Banner HR payroll through ExpressLane
Web self-serve time entry has now become more routine. With so much Banner
HR business and information now Web-based, staff in Human Resources have
formed a ěWebsite Teamî to work on significant improvements to the Lane
HR Website during the summer 2003. Look for major improvements to the Lane
HR Website and Banner self-serve functions by September 2003.
Human Resources
is preparing for the Oracle system upgrade scheduled for July 4th weekend
by slightly adjusting the Banner payroll end date for June 16-30 payroll.
This adjustment is necessary in order for HR staff to complete the July
10 payroll process before the Oracle upgrade. Thwing Havens, Lane's Banner
HR programmer, will be instrumental in facilitating a number of year-end
payroll and benefits reports as well as employee leave adjustments to
complete the fiscal year with accurate and intact data.
In response to
questions that have been raised to the Board about the ěcost, efficiency and return-on-investmentî of
the Banner project, it is important to clarify that College Human Resources
is conducting the same level of business as in previous years, and in many
ways doing more business using a semi-monthly payroll, with 2.0 FTE (16
hours/day) less personnel than was previously required to complete HR functions.
Two management support positions have been eliminated in HR amounting to
substantially over $150,000.00 savings (including OPE) per year for the
College. Semi-monthly payroll processes have been established and published
for the calendar year and reminders are sent to all Lane employees via
email immediately before each payroll deadline. Contact: Dennis Carr Ext.

STUDENT
The Student Module is scheduled to "go live" on June 2nd. The team
feels prepared for go-live week and has conducted the majority of its just-in-time
training for staff. Communication to staff has been through The Daily
and through the Student Core Team website.
ExpressLane Demonstrations were conducted in late May for students
and staff. These
sessions were well attended and received. The Student Core Team will
remain active after the June 2nd go-live date, focusing on projects such as
setting up transfer articulation and preparations for end of summer term processing. Contact:
Helen Barker Garrett Ext. 5686.
SERIES 25 AND SCHEDULING
With the summer class schedule now in homes across the district, members
of the Series 25 Implementation Team are working with members of the
Student Core Team to provide training for Lane staff who are responsible
for building the fall class schedule. The Series 25 Team continues
to implement the many features of the Schedule 25 software and to prepare
for assigning rooms for fall term classes that will be held on main campus. Staff
in the Center for Meeting and Learning continue to expand their use of
the features of Resource 25 as they apply the program's pricing and workflow
capabilities into the events scheduling for that facility. Contact: Craig

FINANCIAL AID
As of May 19th, the Department of Education had received 7,962 applications
listing Lane CC for the 2003-04 academic year. This represents approximately
58% of the volume of applications received in the 2002-03 academic year.
The Financial Aid Banner Team has finalized fund set-up, packaging rules
and parameters, the award letter format, and accompanying consumer information.
The Financial Aid Office expects to mail approximately 1900 award letters
by the second week of June. Immediately following this mailing, the Financial
Aid Office will send revised notifications to include costs and eligibility
to students who have enrolled for summer term. Contact Bert Logan, Ext.
5266.
