Report to the Lane Community College Board
LASR Project
April, 2003
The project is on schedule and within budget.
FINANCE
In March, members of the Finance Implementation Team attended SCT
Summit 2003. Valuable information was gained at the conference about how
to approach a year-end-close in Banner, how to identify the best methods
to implement Banner fixed assets and how to reconcile Banner accounts
receivable. Computer Services and Finance are working closely with
LCC staff to develop and release two new Revenue/Expense Summary Reports
to provide Department Chairs and Administrative Assistants with easier
access to budget and finance reports that contain more detail. Budget
report training will continue until staff are satisfactorily trained. The
Finance Team continues to schedule and test LCC's year-end-close
process, implement Banner fixed assets, and work with other core teams
to ensure all modules are interfacing correctly with the Finance Module. Contact:
Stan Barker Ext. 5608.
HUMAN RESOURCES
Human Resources has now completed five Banner HR payroll events through
April 10. Three HR staff members attended the SCT Banner Summit
in March. Attendance at the SCT Conference yielded substantially more
understanding and appreciation for the power and capacity of the Banner
HR module. Additional staff training and problem-solving support
between the Lane Community College Finance and HR departments has established
protocols for high levels of communication and cooperation working with
Banner for the purpose of assuring accurate payroll, benefits and budget
accounting information. Thwing Havens, Lane's Banner HR programmer, continues
to provide an exceptional level of support for all Banner HR functions.
Thwing was named ìclassified employee of the monthî in February for his
exceptional efforts. Lane Community College employees continue to orient
themselves to complete personal work and leave time entry at least twice
per month from anywhere, anytime (24/7/365) through ExpressLane Internet
access. Data entry timelines for semi-monthly payroll processes have
been established and published for the calendar year and reminders are
sent to all Lane employees via email immediately before each payroll
deadline. Contact: Dennis Carr Ext. 5585.
STUDENT
The Student Team conducted the first of three Mock Registrations
with our consultant in March. This allowed us to test everything we have
learned and to ensure that we have set-up the system so that it will
work for Lane staff and students. We are now experts on how to
register students in both native Banner and ExpressLane. Enrollment
Services has begun to admit summer and fall 2003 students in LANE, the
actual Banner database. April activities will focus on more system
testing, training of section builders in the academic departments on
how to build the fall schedule and the creation of new instructions and
wording for the summer class schedule, which will be mailed around
Memorial Day. Contact Helen Barker Garrett, Student Core Team Chair
at 463-5686 if you have questions on the Student Implementation.
SERIES 25 AND SCHEDULING
The Series 25 software package has two components ñ classroom scheduling
and events scheduling ñ and it is designed to operate with our Banner software. Our
primary goal with this project is to design and implement an effective
and efficient room-scheduling system at Lane. The software will be
used to schedule events and classes beginning with Summer term 2003. Members
of the Series 25 Implementation Team have been training Lane staff who
will be responsible for scheduling events. The Resource 25 software
system is now being used to schedule events occurring on the 30th Avenue
campus after June 30, 2003. Members of the Implementation Team have
also continued to work closely with members of the Banner Student Core
Team as progress continues on building the summer 2003 course schedule. Contact:
Craig Taylor, Ext. 5364.
FINANCIAL AID
The financial aid system has been "live" since March 4, and several thousand
student applications have been loaded into the system. Staff are
logging in documents and completing verification and need analysis functions
using Banner, and the Students First team is using Banner to assist students
with financial aid questions. To date, the office has mailed approximately
1,900 acknowledgement and tracking letters to students who have admission
records. Students are using ExpressLane to track the progress of
their applications, and appreciate the easy availability of information.
Dozens of staff members around campus have been trained to use the student
ExpressLane tool to help students with financial aid questions. Financial
Aid staff continue to work on refining system rules for student budgets,
packaging and the Return of Unearned Title IV (federally mandated refund
processes). Contact Bert Logan, Ext. 5266.
