Report to the Lane Community College Board
LASR Project
February, 2003

The project is on schedule and within budget.

FINANCE
During January Finance held a series of “reminder” trainings, to refresh administrative employees on financial reports and budget transfers in ExpressLane. Finance also spent time working with Human Resources and their consultants to see that payroll checks were printed and mailed in a timely manner and direct deposits were wired appropriately to the employees’ bank accounts. In addition we successfully transferred the payroll information from Human Resources into Finance. We will have a Finance consultant on campus the first week of February for training on how to build a budget in Banner.  Contact: Stan Barker Ext. 5608.

HUMAN RESOURCES
Human Resources successfully completed the first Banner HR payroll on January 24. SCT Banner consultants were instrumental in supporting LCC employees during January implementation. All LCC employees and payroll approvers have received training on how to enter work and leave time via ExpressLane. Employees may complete time entry from anywhere, anytime (24/7/365) through Internet access. Follow-up training for employees and approvers has been scheduled before the February 10, payroll.  HR staff worked hard after the first payroll deadline to document and correct payroll errors that were called to a “payroll information line” and efforts will be made to correct all errors in a timely manner. Data entry timelines for payroll processes have been established and published for the calendar year. Since the college has moved to a semi-monthly payroll and there are now twice as many payroll deadlines and pay events, HR staff have been reorganized to anticipate the changes. Human Resources will establish on-going training programs for new hires.   Contact: Dennis Carr Ext. 5585.

STUDENT
The Student Core Team has switched into high implementation gear, with the focus now on performing system checks and testing, including designing test scenarios, to make sure that what we have designed works the way the team has planned.  The team launched the first training of users of the Student Module, by training the Students First! Representatives on January 31st. Section builders at the department level will be trained in February and begin building the summer class schedule at that time, as well. Programmers are working on converting student data from the COCO system to Banner.  The basic demographic and student information needs to be in place by March 1 for the Financial Aid “go live”. We continue to work closely with the Financial Aid implementation team to prepare for their March 3, 2003 go-live date.  The student system will be "live" for the 2003-2004 academic year. Contact: Helen Garrett, Ext. 5686.

SERIES 25 AND SCHEDULING
Members of the Series 25 Implementation Team are orienting and training Lane staff that will be using the software in the future to build class schedules and to schedule events.  Team members continue to coordinate with members of the Banner Student Core Team to prepare for building the summer 2003 course schedule and to provide future staff training for schedule building.  The Series 25 Advisory Group continues to review the work of the Implementation Team and to provide guidance for implementing the scheduling software and system. Contact: Craig Taylor, Ext. 5364.

FINANCIAL AID
The Banner 5.7 Release was installed in early January, which enabled the Financial Aid Banner Team to create the 2003-2004 financial aid year in Banner.  Team members are working on adjusting the system set-up previously completed for the 2002-2003 aid year during training to reflect changes in the federal student aid delivery system for the 2003-2004 financial aid year. The team was pleased to have this information from SCT so early in January, at least a month earlier than usual from the college’s current software vendor. The team continues to work with the Student Core Team on implementation planning, to finalize and fine-tune overall process flow charts and to develop staff and student training plans. The financial aid module is scheduled to be operational for the 2003-2004 academic year, with a March 3 2003 “go live” date.  Contact:  Bert Logan, Ext. 5266.
