Report to the Lane Community College Board
LASR Project
January, 2003

The project is on schedule and within budget.

FINANCE
During December the Finance Team worked in conjunction with HR to ensure that payroll checks could be printed and LADD payroll deposited. To this end we were able to print 25 test payroll checks, which our bank successfully tested to ensure their machines could read our checks. We also were successful in sending LADD deposits using Lane's new HR program. We further worked to ensure that the payroll transactions would be transferred and recorded in the proper Banner Finance FOAPs (account numbers). In January we are planning to provide additional staff training in using Banner Finance, including making budget adjustments. The Finance Team has a second training in budget development scheduled for the first week of February. Contact: Stan Barker, Ext. 5608.

HUMAN RESOURCES
Three College-wide trial payroll tests were successfully conducted in November and December of 2002. Besides giving Human Resources the chance to check data and practice the Banner payroll process, these tests allowed employees to learn how to enter their leave and time information via ExpressLane and gave the designated approvers an opportunity to learn the electronic approval processes. For the month of December, the Human Resources staff did dual data entry in the Coco and Banner systems. On January 3rd, Computer Services programmers, in conjunction with SCT programmers, began converting the data from the pre-production database (PPRD) to the production database (LANE). The Human Resources Module will be “live” as of January 10th and all Human Resource data functions will be performed in Banner. Data entry timelines for payroll processes have been established and published for the calendar year. Open labs will be held to support employees and approvers through the first payroll and Human Resources will establish on-going training programs for new hires. Contact: Dennis Carr Ext. 5585.

STUDENT
The Student Core Team has now learned the functionality of the Banner software and is making preparations to begin admitting students for summer and fall 2003 into the system in February. The team will also be training and working with sections builders campus-wide to create summer term sections in March. We continue to work closely with the Financial Aid implementation team to prepare for their March 1, 2003 go-live date. Bob Barber, faculty representative on the Student Core Team, has begun leading the campus-wide training initiative to prepare core users, students and faculty on the use of the Banner tool. The student system will be "live" for the 2003-2004 academic year. Contact: Helen Garrett, Ext. 5686.

SERIES 25 AND SCHEDULING
Members of the Series 25 Implementation Team have been inventorying classrooms and entering room characteristics into the system. They will also be meeting with members of the Banner Student Module Team to prepare for building the summer 2003 course schedule and to provide staff training for this important task. The Series 25 Advisory Group continues to review the work of the Implementation Team and to provide guidance for implementing the scheduling software and system. Super-users for the events scheduling software are being identified and training will occur soon for these staff. Contact: Craig Taylor, Ext. 5364.

FINANCIAL AID
The Financial Aid Banner Team completed the seventh week of training on December 19th. The session covered new year set-up, hands-on need analysis, and consulting on tracking and letter generation processes. The Financial Aid Banner Team is working on refining Lane’s financial aid process in Banner, developing appropriate information for students to support the application process, and continues to work with the Student Core Team on implementation planning. The financial aid module is scheduled to be operational for the 2003-2004 academic year, with a March 3 2003 “go live” date. Contact: Linda DeWitt, Ext. 3006.
