Using Days Worked to Describe Annual Workloads

Some departments define faculty workloads with reference to the number of teaching days assigned rather than credit or contact hours taught. Typically, the annual workloads of Counselors and Librarians are defined in this way.   Whenever this method is used, the full-time standard is 178 days.    The full-time standard does not vary from department to department.

Example

  • An assignment of 10 extra days results in an overload FTE of 10/178 or .056 FTE.
