How to Determine the Appropriate Overload Percentage to Use

Overloads are paid at either 85% or 100% of the faculty member's contracted rate.  Use the following guidelines to determine the percentage that is appropriate for the assignment and enter the corresponding schedule number in the box labeled Sched. on the PAF.

  • Academic year overloads are paid at 100% for work that is required (schedule 11).
  • Faculty who are contracted to work less than full-time are also paid at 100% for any academic year overload work up to the 1.0 FTE level (schedule 11). Work in excess of 1.0 FTE is paid at 85% (schedule 10) unless it is required work (schedule 11).
  • All other academic year overloads (schedule 10) and all summer term overloads (schedule 21) are paid at 85% of the employee's contracted rate.
