MAILROOM WORKER
#1010

General Characteristics:
A Mailroom Worker is responsible for performing a variety of generally routine tasks, such as sorting mail, preparing mail for distribution and preparing mail for machine processing in support of the Mailroom operation; does related work as required. Work requires accuracy, speed and attention to detail. Agility is required to reach and bend when sorting mail into bins.

Examples of Work:
Sorts and prepares for distribution incoming U. S. and intercampus mail; opens and determines the correct routing of improperly addressed mail.

Assists with bagging or putting mail in envelopes for the delivery route.

Prepares U. S. mail for machine processing by separating by department number and arranging envelopes with flaps up.

Distributes flyers in quantities large enough to meet the needs of each department.

Locates new staff for the purpose of maintaining current delivery route information.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to sort mail into sorting bins quickly and accurately; ability to memorize names, locations and numbers quickly and accurately; ability to work rapidly; ability to work effectively with staff; ability to use the telephone; ability to reach, bend and occasionally lift boxes of mail weighing up to 40 pounds; ability to work safely.

Supervision:
Works under the direct supervision of the Director of Printing/Graphics. A Mailroom Coordinator assigns daily work. Work is performed under close supervision and within established guidelines.

This position may have responsibility for the assignment of work and training of student assistants.

Minimum Qualifications:
High school graduation or equivalent is required,

Equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered qualifying.
