Facilities Council Minutes: 5/10/05

Attendees: Mason Davis, Marie Matsen, Bob Mention, Sandy Ing-Wiese, Mike Ruiz, Shannon Gaul, Eric Magalhaes, Tracy Simms.

Guests: Margaret Robertson, Lee Imonen, Susan Lowdermilk & Craig Taylor.

1. The minutes of the April 26 meeting were approved as written.

2. Art Works Committee Presentation by Lee and Susan: The committee is renamed as the "Art on Campus Committee", and they provided a list of current members, tasks and projects (cited below).

  • Place existing artwork, 2D & 3D works per requests from other departments
  • Repair and renovate two existing sculptures - the yellow steel sculpture from the former fountain area and a sculpture from the wooded area south of campus
  • Design and build display pedestals for smaller works
  • Design and build display cases for rotating student artworks in other departments on campus
  • Call for art for sculpture in the maze area that replaced the prior fountain (in memory of Carol Lynn Morse)
  • Plan and hold a sculpture invitational that would include works on loan for a year at a time
  • Elizabeth Uhlig, the Archivist, is creating a website with images and information about Lane's existing art collection
  • At the next meeting of the Art on Campus Committee on May 20, the President will share an idea for wall poetry across campus

3. The Sustainability Campus Planning proposal was presented, discussed, and adopted. A subcommittee of the Sustainability Group, including the Campus Planner, will use the Facilities Council policies to shape a set of guidelines for sustainability principles as foundational documents to prepare a new version of the College's Long Range Facilities plan. Periodic status reports will be provided to the Council.

4. The updated draft of the Classroom Utilization Report was reviewed and discussed.

5. Craig reviewed College-wide Planning (the College Council subcommittee presentation) and stressed the difference between planning and resource allocation.

6. The meeting adjourned at 4:35 p.m.
