Invitation to Faculty Connections | Invitation main page

In the summer, when the dates are set and after consulting with division administrative coordinators and faculty members, an invitation is sent to selected “new” colleagues.

Faculty Colleague

I am writing to invite you to participate in Faculty Connections in the coming 2009-10 academic year on September 20 and 21, Monday and Tuesday before the college in-service  During summer, I visit departments to get suggestions for colleagues who might be interested or benefit from participation in the Faculty Connections fall program.  You have been recommended as such a person.

This exemplary faculty-led program supports integration of new colleagues into the faculty and college.  By “new” colleagues we mean:

  • Colleagues new to either permanent or adjunct positions; and participation for several years while “new” is encouraged
  • Permanent colleagues during their time on probation
  • Relatively new adjunct colleagues who want a broader view of and more integration into faculty life at the college.

In this program we connect you with experienced colleagues who want, through mentoring activities, to help new colleagues become more integrated into the whole faculty.

Faculty Connections activities start with a two-day program of useful and engaging activities on Monday and Tuesday, September 20 and 21.  For several years, relatively few full-time positions have been filled, so we now take the opportunity to deal more fully with integrating adjunct faculty colleagues into the whole faculty, which is of interest to both adjunct and permanent colleagues.

In addition to the fall program, Faculty Connections participants are invited to social events and Round Table discussions, to join with colleagues to experience and discuss important aspects of college and faculty life.

Besides the satisfaction of being part of creating connection among colleagues, a small

stipend is available for participants in the fall program, and participants in Round Table discussions will receive materials.  Costs for cultural events and socializing along with partners/family are covered by Faculty Connections.
.
Please contact me at colemanl@lanecc.edu or 541-463-5783 about participating in Faculty Connections.  Until I hear from you, I will continue to try to contact you over the summer.  Thus, I’d appreciate hearing from you as soon as possible.  If you would like more details of this valuable program, please leave a time when I can call you or meet with you.

Liz Coleman, Coordinator
on behalf of the Faculty Connections
Steering Committee
