When colleagues want to join the fall program…

Colleagues

I look forward to your joining the Faculty Connections fall program on September 20 and 21.  The fall program has consistently been a valuable experience, and the Faculty Connections Steering Committee works hard to make each year better.  The program connects you with colleagues throughout the college and helps you become a fuller part of the faculty as a whole and gain a wider sense of the college.  Our aim is to introduce you to resources and colleagues to support a stimulating and professional faculty life.

As Coordinator of Faculty Connections I will facilitate linking “new” faculty members to faculty mentors, some of whom will also be attending the program.  We will talk more about that Monday and Tuesday.  A small part of my job is seeing that stipends of $300 for the two day program are provided in a timely way.

As a Faculty Connections participant, you may attend a year-long series of Round Table discussions and social events.  We will discuss this Monday.

Here are a few things for you to look over or consider before you arrive:

  • The agenda for the two day program.  The tentative agenda is attached.  (Note: Two days is much better than one, but if your personal schedule does not allow you to attend both days, you may attend either day.  Please let me know so I can make better plans.)
  • Syllabi.  We will have a discussion of syllabi Monday morning.  If you want to contribute a syllabus to this discussion, please bring six copies of a syllabus you have or plan to use.  It is not necessary for everyone to bring a syllabus; you are certainly welcome not to bring a syllabus.
  • An article for our discussion of the evolution in how students understand knowing.  The brief discussion article is attached.  This topic has generated rich and valuable discussion, and I look forward to you sharing your insights and experience.  This discussion is Tuesday morning.
  • Dietary accommodation.  We will have two lunches and some food available mornings and during breaks.  If you have special dietary needs, or any other needs, please contact me, and arrangements will be made.

In general, please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
