Procedure:     Admissions: Selective Programs and Waiting Lists
Department:    Enrollment Services
Contact:          John Hamblin, (541) 463-5686           hamblinj@lanecc.edu

Departments must have the approval of Academic and Student Affairs to conduct a selection process for entry into specific programs.

All other programs are on an open or waiting list admissions basis with Enrollment Services responsible for the process.

Students placed on an alternate status in programs with selection procedures will be assured of entry into their programs as openings occur.  A time limit may be established for entry of alternates into programs, after which reapplication is necessary.

Establishing of minimum standards (skill level) in the form of pre-requisites is a function of Academic and Student Affairs, and is not to be interpreted as a selection process.

Preference for in-district students in programs requiring a selection process is listed as follows.

1. The associate degree nursing is open only to in-district students (applicants are not accepted from out-of-district, out-of-state or international students). All applicants must meet the published deadline for all admission and selection requirements.

2. The associate degree for dental hygiene and the certificate program for dental assisting are open only to state residents.  Medical office assisting accepts applications from all qualified applicants (in-state and out-of-state only).  All applicants must meet the published deadline for all admissions and selection requirements.

3. The associate degree for respiratory care accepts applications from all qualified applicants (in-state, out-of-state, and international students).  All applicants must meet the published deadline for admission and selection requirements.

4. The associate applied science emt-paramedic and certificate for emt-basic accepts applications from all qualified applicants  (in-state, out-of-state, and international students).  Preference is given to in-district students for emt-paramedic only.  All applicants must meet the published deadline for admission and selection requirements.

Selective Programs

In programs requiring a special selection process, students must make application both to the institution (Admissions) and to the department.

1. Selection is based on criteria established by Academic and Student Affairs.

2. Applications to these programs will be accepted in Enrollment Services between January 1 and the deadline date as established by the program.

3. Applicants will be screened and a list of candidates to be accepted into the specific program plus those accepted as alternates (in ranked order) will be generated.

4. Students accepted, students accepted as alternates and students rejected by the program will be notified by letter.

5. Students accepted as alternates will be assured entry into the program as openings occur during the year or the following fall term.

6. Students who request further information concerning their nonacceptance to a program may meet with the department chair responsible for the program and the director of Enrollment Services.

Programs with Limited Openings (Waiting List Programs)

Several vocational programs are experiencing a greater student demand than there is space available.  In order to ensure equitable opportunity for entry, the following procedures will be implemented.

1. Students will be accepted into programs based on date of completion of admissions requirements.

2. Students will be notified by the department of their status (either acceptance into the program or placed on an alternate listing).

3. Reapplication or change of major is necessary for admission in later terms or years.

Prerequisites

In order to ensure students a reasonable chance of success, it is necessary that students be advised of the minimal skill levels recommended (or required) prior to enrolling for specific courses.

Students will be provided accurate information concerning the minimum skill levels recommended to ensure a reasonable chance of success for specific courses.
