Procedure:     Hiring Rates: Faculty Positions
Department:      Human Resources
Contact:            Dennis Carr, (541) 463-5583             carrd@lanecc.edu

All faculty employees are placed on a pay level and pay step based on a review of the employee's experience and education background.

Salary Placements:  New Contracted Faculty

A level and step placement recommendation is prepared by Human Resources after the Recruitment Report and Employment Recommendation Form is completed by the department.  Personnel uses the information provided in the employment application packet for this purpose. The placement is based on the initial level and step placement guidelines outlined in the Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement.  These guidelines are used for both new employees and current employees (see Hiring Rates: Definitions) moving into contracted faculty positions.

The department administrator is responsible for reviewing the Human Resources recommendation to ensure that no relevant experience was overlooked and that all experience used for the placement is relevant to the assignment.

Prior work experience used to satisfy the minimum experience requirements of the position cannot also be used toward level or step placement.

Example:  A new employee with 36 months of non-LCC experience who applies for a job requiring 24 months of experience will be placed on step 1.

See the faculty contract for additional restrictions on the use of prior work experience and education.

Part-time work experience is prorated according to the full-time standard.

Example:  Four years of half-time experience counts as two full years of experience.

Salary Placements:  New Part-Time Credit Faculty

A level and step placement recommendation is prepared by Human Resources after the department completes the recruitment and hiring process.  Personnel uses the information provided in the individual's employment application for this purpose.  This placement must be based on the initial level and step placement guidelines outlined in the faculty contract. These guidelines are used for both new employees and current employees (see Hiring Rates: Definitions) moving into part-time credit faculty positions.

The department administrator is responsible for reviewing the Human Resources recommendation to ensure that no relevant experience was overlooked and that all experience used for the salary placement is relevant to the assignment.

The salary placement is recorded on the Part-Time Credit Faculty Statement of Appointment Form prepared by the department and submitted to Human Resources.

Salary Placements:  New Continuing Education Part-Time Faculty

The department administrator is responsible for determining the salary rate of the new continuing education faculty, based on departmental criteria.  The salary rate is recorded on a Personnel Action Form prepared by the department and submitted to Human Resources.
