Legacy Voices: Creating Educational Opportunities with a Charitable Bequest

Jeri StarkWhen Jeri Stark decided to give one-fifth of her estate to the Lane Community College Foundation, her four children enthusiastically welcomed the idea.

"I told my children that I wanted to do this, and they all said, 'Go for it,'" recalls Stark, a retired Symantec executive and a Lane Foundation board member since 1996.

Stark knows firsthand the difference Lane Community College makes for families throughout Lane County by providing lifechanging education and training.

For the past two years, she has chaired the Lane Foundation's scholarship selection committee.

Stark understands the increased financial pressure families feel to support students’ ambitions for education and, ultimately, good jobs or careers.

"One of my main interests is making sure that educational opportunities are always available," she explains. "My charitable bequest to the Lane Foundation is a way to make a statement about what is important to me now and for future generations," Stark says.
