PERFORMING ARTS PROJECT GENERATES HIGH CONTRACTOR INTEREST.
A pre-bid walkthrough conference that occurred last Friday drew fourteen contractors to the Performing Arts facility. A pre-bid walkthrough allows contractors and subcontractors to assess a building and it's surrounding area first hand rather than only viewing architectural drawings. During these walkthroughs, contractors oftentimes offer excellent comments to the architects and bond project manager that result in improvement of the project. Moreover, seeing the building and general work site also allows contractors to submit more realistic bid packages. While only a portion of the contractors may actually submit bids, the unusually high number of interested parties for a project of this size and type indicates two things; namely, the job market is favorable to the construction project, and contractors are inclined to bid more competitively. Bid openings are scheduled for May 18.
