PERFORMING ARTS ADDITION
February 5, 2001 Update
PERFORMING ARTS CONSTRUCTION PRECEEDED BY NECESSARY PASSAGEWAY WORK.
Beginning March 1st, and reaching completion the first week in May, passage ways on either side of the Performing Arts (PA) Facility will be upgraded. The upgrade will provide greater levels of quality campus accessibility during construction of the PA Project. On the West Side of the Performing Arts Building, the ADA compliant pathway that runs between the PA and Physical Education Buildings will be eliminated when construction on the Performing Arts Addition begins in June. Consequently, a new pathway with ADA and aesthetic elements will be reestablished. The new passageway will proceed from the southwest corner of Performing Arts and slope gently downward toward the PE Building. The new 8' wide passage will sweep first right and then left, arriving at a circular landing that is further north, towards the side door of the Fitness Center. Future possibilities for the landing area include benches and appropriate landscaping. Completing the passageway, a southwestern curve will direct pedestrian traffic back towards the first floor entrance of the facility. Simultaneously, on the East Side of the Performing Arts Building, another major upgrade will take place on the main passageway onto campus that runs up the hill and past the Campus Services Building. The objective of this upgrade is to create an ADA compliant passageway that provides a striking main entrance feeling. Echoing 12' campus walk ways, the pathway will be adorned at particular points with inviting components: contrasting textured pavers, an enlarged landing area that welcomes pedestrians with benches and directional signage; an appropriate sprinkling of lamp posts not unlike those found at the LTD Bus Station; and robust attractive landscaping that compliments existing evergreen and deciduous trees. Specifics regarding temporary pedestrian traffic rerouting during construction will be available in the next bond update.
