LOW BID IN ON CHILLED WATER UPGRADE OF CENTRAL PLANT.
You've seen and heard it as you passed by the Center building and looked down through the large panes of glass into the Machine Technology Building: those large clean white pipes, that black angular support steel, and the consistent low hum of machinery. What you have noticed are aspects of the Central Plant that houses the heating and cooling systems for LCC's main campus. Next week, the Board of Education will be asked to approve EMK Mechanical's base bid of $207,699 for the first phase of the Central Plant upgrade: the chilled water system. Second and third phases will address differing aspects of the main plant's heating system. Why are these upgrades needed? Simple. The current heating and cooling system was constructed to accommodate LCC buildings before bond construction. Once all construction is complete, the system will no longer be able to provide adequate heating and cooling services to an institution whose main campus area will ultimately increase by approximately 200,000 square feet. Although the chilled water upgrade is comprised of multiple complex aspects, two basic changes will take place as work commences at the beginning of March: the size of piping will be increased in various locations to carry greater amounts of cold water, and pump capacity will be increased to circulate the cold water through the entire chilled water loop. Taken as a whole, the upgrade will provide the expanded LCC main campus community with ample heating and cooling services in a more energy efficient manner.
Questions and comments about any bond construction activity may be directed to 744-4154 or e-mailed to bond@lanecc.edu. All communication received will be regularly reviewed by the Bond Project Management Team (BPMT), the architects, and the Facilities Management Committee.
