Bond Highlights - December 8, 1999

The following Bond 1995 Projects Status Report was presented to the Lane Community College Board of Education at its Dec. 8 meeting.

Community Learning Centers
All Community Learning Centers have been completed and are in operation except those at Junction City and Elmira.
The perimeter foundation has been poured and, weather permitting, the floor slab is scheduled to be poured this Friday at the Junction City Center.
Construction of the center at Elmira is approximately 75% complete. Substantial completion is planned for January 2000 with operation to begin February 1st.

Florence Center Addition
The new building is complete and in operation. The new boiler has been installed and the system balanced. The covered roof between existing and new buildings is being contracted by LCC Facilities. Construction has begun and is scheduled to be completed in January.

Main Campus Projects:
Welding:
Construction started May 27. Metal building frame is 99% erected. Roofing is 99% complete. Siding, windows and interior framing are about 75% complete. Exterior paving and curbs are complete. Contractor continues to plan for completing the project by December 31 per original schedule. The Bond Team thinks that the completion date is more likely mid to late January.

Parking Lot Improvements:
Contract for PARKING LOT IMPROVEMENTS is 100% complete. Light poles and fixtures have been installed.

Child Care Center:
Construction started in early July. Foundations and slabs have been poured for 3 of the 4 buildings which make up the center. Wood framed walls have been erected at the Office Building and Infants and Toddlers Building. The Office Building roof trusses have been set in place and 75% of the sheathing has been laid. Roof trusses for the Infants and Toddlers Building have been delivered to the site.

Campus Service Addition:
Excavation is complete and footings have been poured. Retaining walls at east and south are complete and masonry walls are 25% complete. Project should be completed by end of April 2000.

Science/Math:
Mobilization has started and construction is scheduled to start after December 13 when winter break begins.

Student Services:
Bid documents go out December 9. Bids will be opened in early January and if the low bid is within the target, construction could start in early February, 2000.

Workforce Training:
Scheduled to go out for bid April 1, 2000.

Health Tech. Remodel:
Remodel is planned to go out for bids April 1, 2000 with a construction start date in mid-June.

Infrastructure Upgrade
Equipment included in the upgrade is being purchased and cabling is scheduled to begin in January. The project should be completed by March 2000.

Sewage Lagoon Upgrade
Representatives of the college and the Oregon National Guard met with engineers to identify options for upgrading the lagoon. The engineers were tasked with performing sufficient work on each of the options to enable them to prepare a feasibility report with cost estimates. This report is due in January. The Oregon National Guard is prepared to participate financially in the cost of the upgrade.

General Comments
The Art Department kilns have been relocated for a cost of $7,000.
The Facilities Management Committee approved spending approximately $65,000 to build a shed east of the addition to the Campus Services building to store surplus property.
Representatives from the college have been meeting with LTD to prepare the location of the temporary and long term LCC Bus Station. The station will be located west of Dale Parnell Loop. This is the same location which was used as a temporary bus station last summer. It is expected that LTD will pay approximately 60% of the cost of the new station.
Construction of the Science-Math building will begin in a few days. Work on the Student Services and Workforce Training buildings will start in the next few months. Construction activities inevitably include some noise and air pollution. The Bond Project Management Team is planning a collegewide communication which asks administrators, faculty, or classified personnel who find that they can not function adequately for construction related causes to notify Mary Glenn in Personnel. The college will make every effort to relocate the person from the offending environment.

Questions and comments about any bond construction activity may be directed to 744-4154 or e-mailed to
bond@lanecc.edu. All communication received will be regularly reviewed by the Bond Project Management Team (BPMT), the architects, and the Facilities Management Committee.
