Bond Update - November 8, 1999

WELDING BUILDING:
An electrical vault is being installed this week with work continuing through Nov. 10; installation prohibits large vehicle traffic through the Campus Services-Auto Technology corridor. Installation of a back-flow vault will occur today through Nov. 11, causing temporary closures of the access road connecting the northeast and northwest parking lots; only emergency vehicles will be permitted through. Some of these closures were postponed from last week. In other work, the roof is finished and walls are more than half completed. Windows are being installed and inside wall framing, HVAC, and electrical work is moving along.

TEMPORARY POWER SHUT-DOWNS,
to five buildings will be necessary for electricians to supply primary electrical service to Welding. The affected buildings are Campus Services, Auto Diesel Technology, Math & Art, Performing Arts, and Air Technology. The tentative plan is: Thursday Nov. 11, Veterans Day, shut down electrical power for at least two hours between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m.; on Saturday, Nov. 20, shut down electrical power for a period between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m.; and if needed, on Sunday, Nov. 21, shut down electrical power for at least two hours between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m., or 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. Campus Services and Auto Diesel Technology will remain shut down from 7 a.m. Saturday possibly through 10 p.m. Sunday. Power will be fully restored by early morning Monday, Nov. 22. Managers and administrative assistants of the affected departments have been notified.

CAMPUS SERVICES ADDITION:
Stem walls should be poured Nov. 9. Cabinetry needs are being evaluated. A water line has been installed; gas and air lines come next. Meanwhile, work is progressing on the new site for the art kilns displaced by this project; a vent hood has been installed and fencing will be erected Nov. 11. The site is between Air Tech and Machine Tech.

THE SCIENCE/MATH:
An asbestos and lead survey of the Science Building has been conducted. If analysis shows any problem areas that might be disturbed by construction, an abatement contractor will be hired. The building construction bid opening is Nov. 9. If Responses are within budget and without complications, the Board of Education will be asked to award a contract at its Nov. 10 meeting.

THE CHILD CARE PROJECT:
Pre-fabricated walls for Building 1 of the child care project are scheduled to be delivered today. Installation will take one to four days. Site work continues for the other buildings.
