Bond Update - September 17, 1999

WELDING is reaching for the sky:
Construction crews began erecting steel beams on Thursday, giving the first hint of a new skyline on main campus' east side. Project completion is scheduled for December.

CHILD CARE on campus'
West side began to take shape as workers built forms for foundations. This project should be completed in April 2000. Some of the boulders saved from project excavations will be selected by child care staff for landscaping the complex, or village, as some are suggesting calling the five-building cluster. This project will be the new home of the ASLCC Child Care Co-op, Family and Health Career's Child Development Center/Early Childhood Education program, and Lane Family Connections.

LTD returned to its traditional location by Apprenticeship for fall term.
When construction of the new Student Services building begins, tentatively scheduled for February 2000, LTD will move back to the temporary site near the west fountain. Facilities planners are "costing out" a permanent relocation site. Seven sites were examined in a study and planners currently favor a west fountain site with modifications to enhance pedestrian safety and aesthetic value. Planners will present a proposal to the Facilities Management Committee which will make a recommendation to the president. The relocation decision will take a few months. LTD is involved in the planning process. FMC meetings are open and notice is published in The Daily.

ARCHIVES storage is destined for PE 122-A and B,
Returning to main campus materials now stored at the old Montgomery Wards building on Franklin Blvd. To make the most of the space, shelves may be mounted on a space-saver track system.
