Summary of current bond activity

  1. Community Learning Centers
Thurston: Working with sign company to design and install a permanent exterior sign. The proposed sign has been reviewed by Springfield School District. They have asked that we consider using a sign that is painted on the front wall in the Thurston colors similar to other graphics at the school. The sign company is being asked to investigate this possibility.
Churchill: The greenhouse is nearly completed. This is the last of the work to be completed in this project.
McKenzie: All exterior walls for the gym and LCC Center have been erected. The roof over the center will not be completed for probably three weeks until interior structural work is done in the gym. Some site work has been completed with the dry weather.
Elmira: Final construction documents are being completed for the center, which is part of a total project that is being developed at the high school. The project should be out to bid in May. The Fern Ridge School District is expected to ward the construction contract in time for construction to start by mid-June. The center is expected to be open the middle of fall term 1999.
Junction City: The architect is currently working on some zoning questions concerning our proposed site. They have completed a preliminary set of schematic plans and have started to look at possible elevations, but are awaiting more information on the site before proceeding.
Harrisburg: Discussions continue about the scope of a center at Harrisburg.

  2. Florence Center Addition
The new building is nearing completion. There is still painting to be completed, some lighting fixtures to be installed, carpet to be installed and numerous smaller items. Potentially, the college can start to use this building within the next two or three weeks. HVAC upgrade in the old center is still a couple of months from completion.

  3. Main Campus Projects
The architects have continued to work with the Project User Groups (PUGs) to bring schematic plans into conformance with the project budgets that have been established by the Board. The Welding Building, Child Care Center, Science Addition, Workforce Training, and Student Services buildings have been getting the most attention since those are the project that are to be completed the soonest to create the space needed to locate other activities so that the remodeling projects can be completed.
The Welding Building project has gone out to bid with a bid opening on April 27. The Board will be asked to award the construction contract at its May meeting. Construction should start before the end of May with an estimated completion by next December.
Changes have been made to the Child Care Center design to bring the project within the established budget. This project should be out to bid in May with a bid opening in June. It is currently estimated that the center will be completed by March 2000.
The bid documents for the addition to the Campus Services Building to house the Laundry and Printing & Graphics departments are underway. This project should be out to bid in June. Construction should start in July and be completed by the following March.
It is now proposed that the new parking lot to the southwest of campus will be constructed during this next summer. This will offset the loss of parking spaces due to the Welding Building construction and will provide for the final development of the Child Care Center site.

  4. General Comments
As part of the Child Care Center project we are engaged in two special activities. We continue to work with the State Department of Energy in completing a "show case" building commissioning process for the project. We are also working with EWEB to explore the possible installation of a "show case" horizontal loop ground source heat pump system. In both cases, the additional costs associated with the activity are being borne by the outside agencies.

The Bond Management Team (BMT) will be available at 744-4154 during summer hours to answer any questions and give information. All communication received by the BMT during the summer months will be reviewed regularly by the team, the architects and the Facilities Management Committee.
