Geotechnical Work Awarded

The Bond Management Team is pleased to announce that the main campus geotechnical evaluation has been awarded to the local firm of Braun Intertec Corporation. Shortly, Braun Intertec will begin to evaluate the subsurface soil conditions at differing sites in order to provide appropriate recommendations for site preparation and pavement designs. Site exploration will be accomplished by means of subsurface borings and test pits across the proposed building areas. Braun Intertec anticipates the exploration program to run approximately one week.

Taking a pro-active position on designs and their accompanying costs, the Science Department held a discussion with department members, the architects and the management team. The discussion included taking a realistic look at funding allocated for the Science/Math addition, the relationship of new and remodeled construction space, and the critical need for construction phasing and corresponding lab availability. Additionally, members of the Math Department will meet the beginning of September to discuss similar issues. The discussions of both of these departments seek to insure not only that the addition can fall within budget, but that the needs of both departments will be met.

The Florence Outreach Center Addition has moved one step closer to groundbreaking with the acquisition of the building and electrical permits.

The next update on bond activities will be posted September 3rd.

The Bond Management Team (BMT) will be available at 744-4154 or 747-4501 Ext. 2727 during summer hours to answer any questions and give information. All communication received by the BMT during the summer months will be reviewed regularly by the team, the architects and the Facilities Management Committee.
