Archive of Bond 1995 - Bond Status Report - 03/14/2001
The following Bond 1995 Projects Status Report was presented to the Lane Community College Board of Education at its March 14, 2000 meeting.
Main Campus Projects:
Child Care Center:
Construction of the storage sheds and sand box shelters has been completed except for the painting which will be done when weather permits.
Science/Math:
Six items need to be completed before an Occupancy permit can be issued. We anticipate completing those items by March 18, 2001. The schedule is tight but we still plan on holding Spring Term classes in the new building. LCC crews have been busy moving and assembling furniture in new faculty offices.
Student Services:
The contractor has a few items left to complete and LCC trades have a lot of work to do before the building can be fully occupied.
Workforce Training:
Chambers Construction has laid the gravel pad, dug foundations and formed them for pouring concrete for the Conference Center portion of the building. The west balcony of the Apprenticeship building has been removed.
Health Tech. Remodel, Phase 1:
The occupancy permit is expected to be issued by mid-March. LCC crews will be rushing to complete their work to enable Spring Term classes to be held in the remodeled building.
Sewage Lagoon Upgrade
LCC is simultaneously pursuing 2 options to resolve the sewerage lagoon problem: 1. Connecting to the Metropolitan Wastewater System and 2. adding equipment to the lagoons to improve the quality of the discharge water. A consultant has been hired to identify and quantify all of the issues which need to be addressed in order to evaluate whether LCC should move forward with this option. An engineering firm has been hired to provide information about how to upgrade our lagoons to achieve the level of purity needed for the discharge. They will also provide a cost estimate.
LTD Bus Station
Still waiting for the clock to be fabricated so that it can be installed.
Performing Arts Addition:
The last cost estimate revealed that the project was about $175,000 over budget. Consequently, the PUG and Bond Team will look for ways to reduce the cost before going out for bids. This exercise will take from 2 - 4 weeks.
Center Building 1st floor Remodel:
Planning process with Food Service and Culinary Arts is continuing.
Central Plant Upgrade:
The contract for upgrading the chilled water system has been signed and work will commence by mid-March. The work is scheduled to be completed by about May 18, 2001.
P.A.-P.E. Ramp:
The addition to the Performing Arts building will cut off an existing foot path from the central campus to the lower level of the P.E. building. Tom Oroyan, the LCC architect, has designed an ADA compliant ramp to replace the existing path. This work will be paid for from the ADA Accessibility account. Bids for this project were opened on March 5, 2001. This project is scheduled to be completed by May 1, 2001.
General Comments:
Conservative management of Bond funds is needed to ensure that all of the Bond 1995 Projects can be completed. At this point, barring unforseen contingencies, the Bond office is confident that all of the projects can be funded. However, almost every week some deserving problem makes itself known and needs money to resolve. Even newly completed buildings have minor unexpected needs. The Bond office evaluates each of these needs and determines which to fund and which not to. Naturally, those whose needs are not funded are unhappy but most realize that the larger goal of the college is to complete all of the projects. After that is accomplished, if there are funds left, their needs can be reexamined and perhaps funded.
Questions and comments about any bond construction activity may be directed to 744-4154 or e-mailed to bond@lanecc.edu. All communication received will be regularly reviewed by the Bond Project Management Team (BPMT), the architects, and the Facilities Management Committee.
