The Sámano family's involvement with Lane Community College spans the college's entire 40 years.

- Luis Sámano moved to Oregon in the early 1960s from Mexico City and over the years has taken ESL, automotive, and other courses at Lane.

- Michael Sámano, son of Luis, graduated from Lane in 1990 after taking university transfer courses. He currently is on the Lane faculty and serves as the coordinator of Ethnic Studies.

- Debra Sámano Hopper, daughter of Luis, graduated from Lane in 1995 with university transfer courses and returned to earn her nursing degree in 2002.
- Nancy Robinson, mother of Michael and Debra, took sociology courses together with Michael in the late 1980s and became a certified pre-school teacher.
- David Scott Robinson, step-father of Michael and Debra took vocational courses for career advancement in the late 1980s. David's parents met while taking classes at the Eugene Vocational School in the early 1950s.
- Jerry Berg, uncle of Michael and Debra, was an instructor in the Study Skills Center, 1967-1978.
- Ted Berg, cousin of Michael and Debra, was an instructor in the English department, 1976-1999.
