Center for Learning Advancement
Mission Statement: The Center for Learning Advancement provides instruction and support at both the developmental and transfer levels to prepare students for success in lower-division and professional/technical courses and in work, family, and community settings. The Division uses assessment and placement information to offer sequenced credit and non-credit courses in reading, writing, English as a second language, math, study skills, and computer literacy.
- Academic Learning Skills - Academic Learning Skills (ALS) offers courses to improve student success in lower division, professional technical and transfer courses. ALS courses offer clear and direct articulation with courses required for the Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer degree. ALS coordinates class sequences and outcomes with the following departments: Adult Basic and Secondary Education; Business Technology; Computer Information Technology; English as a Second Language; Language, Literature and Communication; Family and Health Careers; Mathematics; and Women in Transition.
- Adult Basic and Secondary Education (ABSE) - ABSE
offers a variety of pre-college level alternatives for adults and teens who need to improve on basic and secondary level reading, writing or math skills for work-related reasons, to prepare for college, or pass the GED.
- Tutoring Services -
Tutoring Services is a centrally organized program which coordinates free drop-in tutoring occurring in many subject areas and centers on main campus. All tutoring is free to currently enrolled Lane students and provides one-on-one assistance in most academic subjects.
- English as a Second Language -
The English as a Second Language (ESL) Program at Lane Community College provides intensive English language training to a wide cross-section of residents in Lane County.
- International English as a Second Language -
The International English as a Second Language Program provides intensive English language training to prepare foreign students for entry into community college programs or universities. This program enrolls students from more than 40 different nations. All classes are culturally-mixed, and all instruction is conducted exclusively in English.
