CERT - Community Emergency Response Team

In the event of a major disaster, response from emergency responders may be delayed and/or not adequate to address the entirety of the problem at Lane. CERT provides a trained group of volunteers to appropriately respond in an emergency by assisting others in their immediate vicinity and by assisting emergency responders. CERT trained individuals know how to safely provide initial aid. They also report to the Joint Operations Center and may be assigned to different teams. Because they have had standardized training the Incident Command Structure knows their capabilities and can appropriately and quickly utilize them. Trained CERT members can extinguish small fires, perform light search and rescue and render basic medical treatment. They can also provide shelter support, crowd control, and evacuation.
